Clean Energy & Logistics Plan
About the Plan
The Fulton Industrial Clean Energy and Logistics Plan builds on previous initiatives including the CID’s Freight Cluster Plan and District Master Plan. This plan focuses on providing clean energy for both freight and the public through electric vehicle and alternative fuel-charging infrastructure. It also involves developing a district-wide utility strategy for small-cell solar installations and evaluating corridor locations for truck parking and staging. At its conclusion, the plan is expected to offer detailed, financially viable recommendations with a strong emphasis on serving Fulton Industrial Boulevard and adjacent communities.
Beyond merely siting charging stations, the plan will position the CID as a national leader in clean-energy innovation. It will consider renewable-energy generation in the district, identifying opportunities for expansion and potential pilot programs. The plan will also integrate placemaking and wayfinding strategies to combine sustainability and innovation with community and economic development. The plan will employ coordinated streetscaping, public art and enhancements to the public realm to promote clean-energy initiatives within the district. The initiative aims to provide underserved communities with access to EV infrastructure and education, fostering engagement in the clean-energy sector.
By combining investments in clean-energy infrastructure with placemaking, the plan aims to attract talent, support innovation and cultivate community pride within the CID.
Study Area
The study area includes the CID boundary. As illustrated in the map, there is some existing EV charging infrastructure near the corridor, but limited charging for residential communities to the south. Also shown are existing solar installations. Truck parking and clean fueling stations are also shown. These resources are relatively limited at this time and the plan will build out a stronger network of truck parking and clean-energy production and fueling that builds on the existing framework.
Stakeholders
Conversations with stakeholders are a marque element of this planning effort. The stakeholder engagement process focuses on four primary categories:
- Tenants and Industry
- Brokers
- Government and Organizations
- Fleet Owners and Logistics
To date, the project team has met with more than 15 groups in these categories, representing a wide variety of perspectives throughout the corridor and nearby communities.
Early Ideas
Five projects are being explored as a result of initial stakeholder engagement:
- EV Charging and Green Energy Creative Placemaking Site
- Clean Energy Travel Plaza
- Exploring the Executive Airport as an Innovation District
- Network of Truck Staging
- Clean Power Generation Toolkit
This project is currently in progress. As the team explores and implements recommendations, this information will be updated. To stay informed, sign up for the CID quarterly newsletter.
