Bridge Replacement & Diverging Diamond Interchange: I-285/Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway

Project Overview

Bridge Replacement & Interchange Enhancements

GDOT is planning to make improvements to the I-285 Interchange at Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway (SR 8) from I-285 to SR 280. The project, located in Fulton County and the city of Atlanta, is slated to be completed in two separate two phases, with Phase I located within the Fulton Industrial district. Benefits of the project include reducing the frequency and severity of crashes involving pedestrians and improving the flow of vehicular traffic.

Key improvements planned include upgrading the interchange to a diverging diamond interchange (DDI). The project also will replace the existing bridge over I-285 with a new bridge that accommodates the proposed I-285 West Express lanes and adjusts the location of access control points away from the I-285 ramp terminals. The CID will add aesthetic enhancements to the bridge and surrounding interchange area.

A two-lane connector road is proposed from Bolton Road to Fulton Industrial Boulevard to provide connection back to Bolton Road from the removal of the left turn from Donald Lee Hollowell. On the north side of Donald Lee Hollowell, Bolton Road is proposed to have a cul-de-sac where the current signal is located.
