Donald Lee Hollowell Bridge Replacement

CID to Add Visual Enhancements to GDOT Project

Through Georgia’s Major Mobility Investment Program (MMIP), the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is making major investments in the state’s transportation network to create additional capacity, improve freight movement, increase efficiencies, enhance safety, and lower travel times. GDOT is replacing the Donald Lee Hollowell Bridge over I-285 and redesigning the I-285/I-20 West interchange. The interchange will include collector-distributor lanes to improve local travel times as well as modifications and replacements to other bridges along I-20.

As a visually prominent gateway into the CID area, the Donald Lee Hollowell Bridge and I-285 interchange is a primary gateway into the District. Enhancing this location will improve the experience of visitors and workers entering the District. The CID is in the process of working with GDOT to make substantial streetscape and visual improvements and enhancements to the bridge replacement.

The project is currently in the design phase and will include an iconic bridge railing, landscaping, and streetscapes improvements, including decorative crosswalks, public art, and gateway signage. Click the images below for a conceptual before-and-after vision for the Donald Lee Hollowell Bridge.
