Project Overview
Making Intersections Safer for Vehicles and Pedestrians
The 2015-2016 intersection upgrades focused on vehicle access and pedestrian safety at the front door of the district at and near the Fulton Industrial Boulevard/I-20 interchange. The CID received a $460,000 grant from SRTA for improvements at the following intersections:
- I-20 westbound off-ramp at Fulton Industrial Boulevard
- I-20 eastbound on-ramp at Fulton Industrial Boulevard
- Fulton Industrial Boulevard at Shirley Drive
- Fulton Industrial Boulevard at Commerce Circle
The project included new and improved vehicular and pedestrian traffic signals and enhanced pedestrian services with new sidewalks, ADA-compliant ramps and crosswalks. Operational upgrades included improved turning radii for trucks at intersections, curb repair and median modifications to improve traffic flow.
Also in 2016, the CID commissioned a landscape design firm and an engineering firm to create a beautification plan for the Fulton Industrial Boulevard/I-20 interchange. This $800,000 comprehensive streetscaping project was completed in 2018.
